Nuts & Bolts

What should I do if I want to know more?

If you want to know more, call or email me to schedule a phone consultation. During this 15-30 minute conversation, I can answer any questions you have, hear a little more about your situation, and schedule our first session.  If at any time, it seems like I can’t provide what you are looking for or if it doesn't feel like a good fit, I will do my best to direct you to a more appropriate referral.

What does Good Fit mean?

Good fit - You feel comfortable* with me and my approach and I feel I have adequate training and specialization to provide the support that you are needing.

*For some folks, and for many legitimate reasons, feeling comfortable with other people is a big challenge.  I will do my best to be sensitive around any needs in this regard and encourage you to discuss this with me.  In these cases, good fit would mean feeling “relatively” comfortable.

How often (and for how long) will we meet?

I generally work with people once a week for 50 minutes, though there times when it makes sense to meet more often or for a longer period of time.  This is especially the case with EMDR sessions, which are often 90 minutes, but sometimes this is helpful with couples and individuals as well.  Usually, meeting longer or more frequently is something that we decide together.

I work with people for different amounts of time. If you are working on a very specific memory or issue in EMDR or in relationship therapy we may work together for only a few months.  However, most of my clients choose to work with me for longer periods of time to develop a supportive relationship in which to work on long held patterns and challenges.

How much will it cost?

My fees are:

  • $190 for 50 minute sessions

  • $250 for 75 minute sessions

What if I can't pay that?

If you are looking for therapy at a lower rate, check out openpathcollective.org.  Training clinics are also a great option for lower fee psychotherapy.  Feel free to call if you would like recommendations for these in the Bay Area.

Do you take insurance?

Kind of.  I do not contract with insurance companies, but I am happy to provide paperwork (called a "superbill") that you can submit to your insurance after sessions for possible partial reimbursement.  You would be responsible for paying for sessions up front and submitting the paperwork.  Please call your insurance before we meet to verify what their reimbursement policy is for "out-of-network" providers and to find out where to send the form.  There is no guarantee insurance will provide coverage and insurance will never reimburse for missed sessions.  If you'd like to use your insurance benefits directly, you may request a listing of in-network providers from your insurance carrier and pick a therapist from their panel.

What forms of payment do you take?

I accept payment via cash, checks, debit and credit cards.  I can also securely keep a credit or debit card on file if you'd like me to charge for sessions automatically.

Do you have a cancellation policy?

My cancellation policy is 24 hours.  This means that if you cancel within 24 hours of a scheduled session or do not show for a scheduled session, you are responsible for the fee.

Are you ADA accessible?

No.  My office is on the 3rd floor and the building is unfortunately not ADA accessible.  I’m happy to provide an accessible referral or therapy over video if you'd like to work with me.

Do you offer online therapy?

Yes.  I generally work with folks in person, but do provide online therapy when needed and appropriate to your situation.  There are also licensing considerations: I am licensed in California (#PSY 28557) which allows me to work with folks who are residents of California or who live outside of the US.  Some states may also allow me to provide support to their residents and I'm happy to research this.  I do not provide EMDR online.
